Common Hardware Errors and their solutions

This article describes common hardware errors and their solution.
Following are some common hardware errors and their solutions in Windows XP.

1. If you receive an error message “stop: 0xx000026C” unable to load device driver” or similar to that then it may be because a device driver file is missing or corrupted or the missing file was a driver file or the User32.dll file may be missing or damaged.

To solve this problem, use recovery console to replace the missing or damaged file.

2. For error message “STOP: 0x000009F DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE”.
This error occurs in the case when drivers cannot handle power state transition requests properly during the shut down.

To solve this problem, update or simply remove the driver, which is creating problem. Mainly this error occurs because of a device driver or a file system filter driver such as an anti virus software, backup program or remote control etc.
Follow the steps to fix the driver, which is causing problem.

 

• Check whether your computer and all installed devices are listed in “hardware compatibility list.
• Look for any updated driver available for your device. You may visit the manufacturer’s website.
• Upgrade software, which is linked with filter drivers like remote control, anti virus and backup program.
• Try to remove any non-critical device and software and then check if the errors appear again after their removal.

3. For Error message “STOP XxXXXXXDI”
This error receives, when you shut down your computer and it has one or two USB devices attached to it, this error is normally due to bugs in the USB driver software.
To resolve this problem, download and install all available service packs for Windows XP.

3. For error message “STOP: OxAO”
This error message receives during hibernation normally because if you have an IDE hard drive, it may time out during hibernation process. It is because the ATAPI driver does not wait enough for primary drive to become available.
This error has been resolved in latest service pack for Windows XP.

4. For error message “STOP XxXXXXED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME”
You receive this error message when you restart your computer when upgrading the Windows XP. It may also be received, when you start your Windows XP.
To solve this error, you will have to restart your computer to the Recovery Console then type “chkdsk/r” command to repair the file system then check to locate the cause of file system in the drive. Now enter the drive where Windows is installed, then press “enter”. Type, “exit” at the command prompt and then restart the computer. If the error has not been fixed, repeat the above procedure by using the “fixboot” command instead of “chkdsk/r” command.

4. For error message “Modem is installed on the computer, but the network services cannot make an internet connection with the modem”
This kind of error message is received when remote access applet of Windows XP is not functioning. Modem is working but the applet does not recognize the modem.
To solve this problem reinstall all the Windows XP updates starting from service pack 1.
