How to Install and configure ISA Server
This article explains how to install and configure ISA Server. This article takes you step by step through the installation of ISA Server. Before get started to the installation of ISA Server make sure that you should do something beforehand.
- Make sure that you have Windows 2000 Server installed on your ISA Server machine.
- Now configure the server, which will host the ISA Server installation.

Installing ISA Server
- Insert the ISA Server CD in CD drive. Installation program will be started, showing you the welcome screen. If it does not start automatically, simply double click the ISAAutorun.exe file.

- Now in this step you have to make a decision, which is, if you are using this ISA Server as an array member, then you must install the ISA Server schema into Active Directory. To initialize the schema, click “Run ISA Server Initialization” which will show a dialog box as follow

- From ISA Enterprise Initialization choose ” Use this enterprise policy” and check the “Force packet filtering on the array” and click “OK”.

- Enterprise Initialization process will be started

After successfully installing the ISA Server Enterprise Initialization tool a message will be displayed

- By clicking the “install ISA Server” from ISA Server setup window will start the process you will be asked to enter the CD key and license agreement will be showed to you.
- After entering the CD and clicking “ I agree”, installation types will be showed. Choose “typical installation”

- The next window will ask you to choose the mode in which this server will work. Choose “integrated mode” and click “continue”.

- Now you have to construct a LAT table. The simple way to do this is to click “construct table” button and click “ok”.

The installation has been finished now and you are in the business.
Configuring ISA Server
First of all create a protocol definition. To do so follow these steps
- Click the “protocol definitions” in the left pane expand of ISA Management. Also click “create a protocol definition”.
- Name the definitions as you like
- Type “1433” for “Port number”, for “protocol” select “TCP” and select “outbound” for “direction”
- Select “no” when you are asked to make a secondary connection.
To create a protocol rule follow these steps
- Click “protocol rules” in the left pane of “access policy” in the ISA Management.
- Name the rule, as you like.
- In the “rule action” dialog box, under “response to client requests to use protocols”, select “allow”.
- Select “apply this rule to” and then select “selected protocols”.
- Configure the schedule, as you like.
- Configure the client type as you like.
Configuring the Client computer
- Start the client network utility. Select “TCP/IP” on the “General” tab.
- If an alias needs to configure then click “add”.
- Now give the server a suitable alias.
- For protocol select “TCP/IP”, and enter the IP address in the “computer Name” text box.
