How to control PC remotely

Remote access means, the ability to log onto a computer from a distant location. This implies a computer, a modem and some remote access software to connect to the remote computer or network. This article describes that how you can access a PC remotely from a distinct location.

• The host PC image will appear in the viewer window.
• You are now connected to your host PC and ready to start accessing all your files, applications and email as if you were sitting at your PC.

      How you remotely control another PC
 VNC
VNC allows you to remote control another computer over the Internet. It is very easy to use and best of all, it's FREE. The only prerequisite is that both computers need to have an active connection to the Internet.

There are two components to VNC: the server and the client

Download VNC & Install it

• Download VNC and unzip the file to a directory of your choice.
• You will find two folders: vncviewer and winvnc.
• Open the winvnc folder and double-click on setup.exe.
• This will install the VNC server on your computer.

Now start the Server
To start VNC on your server:

• Press on Start button > Programs > VNC > Administrative Tools > Install WinVNC Service.
• The server program will run and a pop-up box will prompt you for some setting.
• You will need to enter a password. Make it something that only you will know. You certainly don't want unwanted hackers gaining access to your computer.
• Press on OK. VNC will be running in the background.

What is your IP Address
Find your IP Address for Windows:

• Press on Start button and then choose Run.
• Type cmd, when a box appears in front of you.
• Type ipconfig when a DOS box will appear.
• Write down the number next to IP Address
• More than one IP address may appear.
• Your computer is now ready to be controlled.

Remote controlling your computer
These steps must be done on your client compute:

• You will need to download the VNC program again.
• When you have downloaded the program, unzip the file into a folder of your choice. We will now need the folder called vncviewer.
• Open it up and you will find a program called vncviewer.exe > double-click on this program to start it. In the connection details box > type in your IP Address.
• Press OK > a password box will soon appear.

Remote control refers to taking control of another computer; remote access means that the remote computer actually becomes a full-fledged host on the network.
