How to troubleshoot a remote router

Router is a network device that is used to connect remote sites via private lines or public carriers. The remote router is required at both ends and provides the protocol conversion between the internal network (LAN) and the external network (WAN). It’s quite possible that some errors and problems may occur in remote excess like other network devices. A network administrator can easily troubleshoot these errors and problems by following these steps.

Solution of some common errors in remote router

Dial-Up Networking Errors in remote router

ERROR -50 .The request is not supported.

Solution:

To remove this error, you follow these steps.
• Go to CONTROL PANEL > Windows Firewall; turn the firewall OFF and see if the error disappears.
• Turn the Windows Firewall back ON, and check the settings in the Exceptions tab, and the Advanced tab > for the dial-up connection.

Error 600. An operation is pending.
Solution:

An internal error has occurred, Shut-down and re-start computer to make sure that all recent configuration changes have taken effect.
If this does not correct the problem, you may need to remove and re-install portions of Windows, or reinstall the Windows.

 

Error 611 - The route is not available.
Solution:

Install NETBIOS interface or NETBIOS binding disabled.

Error 609. The device type does not exist. Solution:
The remote access phonebook file and network and dial-up connectoid information may be inconsistent. This may occur if you have changed your modem or serial port. If the error persists, delete and re-create dial-up networking connectoids.

Error: Local Router Is Not Receiving Packets from Its Remote Peer

Solution:
• The local router is sending LCP CONFREQs and timing out because the remote peer router is not sending or reply.
• Remote peer is configured for PPP encapsulation .
• Remote peer is receiving CONFREQ packets by enabling debug ppp neg on the remote peer.


Software transfer errors in remote router

Error: When error opening tftp appears

Solution:
First you verify that the file is in the root directory of the TFTP server, and check to see if you entered the correct filename. Some easily mistaken letters are I (uppercase i), l (lowercase L), and 1 (the numeral one).

Error: When timeout error messages appears

Solution:
Verify that the TFTP server is open on your PC. Make sure the file is in the root directory
(From the TFTP application software menu bar, select View—>Options).

Remote router backup errors

Error. The server logs report Error 10053 during a backup session from one client.

Solution:
• First make sure that your RBS Server tests fine using the Online Server Tester: http://remote-backup.com/support/testr bs.htm
• If the above test fails, it is most likely that your RBS Server's router or firewall isn't properly configured. Recheck your server settings and router/firewall settings.

Disaster recovery from a client

Solution:
You should not reinstall a fresh client, Select New Registration - and register with the same username and password then proceed to run a backup If you do this and are not 100% sure of the encryption method and encryption key for the original Client installation, you WILL lose data by over-writing the encryption key. In this case, RBS cannot recover the data.
There are 2 ways you can do the Disaster Recovery Operation:

1. Using the Encryption Key Disk/File:
2. Using a Printout of the encryption key info OR if you have the Encryption Key itself (Manual Disaster Recovery).
