This article explains top tips for windows 2000 Server.

You can tile specific applications in Windows 2000 Server. From the taskbar, click the “Show Desktop Icon” which is located in the Quick Launch Bar, just to the right of Start to minimize all programs. Hold down the “CTRL” key. On the taskbar, click “WordPad” and right click the “Notepad” and click “Tile Vertically”.

In Windows 2000 Server, multiple applications can be open from the start menu. Hold down the “SHIFT” key throughout. Now click “Start”, point to “Programs”, point to “Accessories”, click “Calculator”, “Notepad”, and “WordPad”. Specify the role of your computer, connection device, Host or Guest infrared, serial, or parallel port page, which may use the connection.

  • Windows 2000 Server allows you to use quick launch bar to start the frequently used applications. It is quite simple just drag an icon on your desktop to the “Quick Launch” portion of the “taskbar”. It will then appear next to the other Quick Launch icons e.g. Internet Explorer, Outlook Express. Then drag the icon that displayed on the desktop to the recycle bin; you would not be needing it any longer, and you will no longer need to look for the desktop icon to start programs you commonly run.
  • You can use cascading “My Computer” in “start menu” in Windows 2000 Server. To do so, drag the “My Computer” icon to the “Start” button, and it will automatically create a cascading shortcut to My Computer which will expand to reveal your drives, folders, and files. You can also hold your cursor over a partition in the “Start Menu” for a moment in order to view its free space and capacity. You can execute a file just by single click on it in the Start Menu, and by double clicking to open a folder.
  • You can get TCP/IP information in windows 2000 server. “WinIPcfg.exe” is file on which you relied upon in Windows 98, but in Windows 2000 Server this file is now called “IPconfig.exe”, and it is not based on a GUI anymore. Execute it from the command prompt and you will have your entire TCP/IP network.
  • You can enable file and directory name completion for all command prompt sessions. Simple click “Start”, point to “Programs”, “Accessories”, then right click “Command Prompt” and select “Properties”. From the “Shortcut” tab in the “Target” box, write System Root “%\system32\cmd.exe /f:on” and click “OK”. Now the Command Prompt shortcut on the “Start” menu will now start “Cmd.exe” with File and Directory Name Completion enabled.
