Printers
Printers are peripheral devices that are attached with computer to take out prints. Printers can be categorized on the basis of speed and on the basis of impact and non-impact printers. Impact printer includes Dot-Matrix Printer, Daisy wheel printer, Drum Printer, Chain Printer, Band printer which prints with strike of hammer, while non-impact printer Ink-jet and Laser Printer can print high quality color printing by using thermal electrostatic technology.

Printers can in black and white mode and in color mode as well. Some printers are very slow like Dot Matrix and Daisy Wheel while Laser printers are high speed printers. Drum Printers and page Printers are also considered high speed printer as they print one line or a page at a time.
Classification of Printers according to Speed
According to speed printers can be classified into Dot Matrix, Inkjet and Laser printers.
Dot Matrix Printers
Dot Matrix printers are cheapest printer that work like an ordinary type writer and can print text, graphics, charts and pictures in black and white mode. Dot Matrix printers are cheapest printers so they are mostly used with personal computers. Dot Matrix printers make character small dots of pins. The pins in the point head are located on a matrix that range from 9X7 to 24X9. Magnetic device press forward the pin to print the required character. Some Dot Matrix printers can do color printing by using color ribbons. Dot Matrix printers can create alphabets in Dot Matrix has ability to print character with different fonts and in different languages like Urdu, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic and in many other languages.
Inkjet Printers
Inkjet printers work like a Dot Matrix printer and print one character at a time but with high quality printing feature. Inject printer print 250 characters per second or 1 page to 6 pages per minute by using spray of ink. Spray jet make character by using very small dots and is controlled by electromagnetic field. Ink is instantly absorbed into paper and get dry. Inkjet printer can print text, graphics, charts, pictures in black and white and in high quality colors as wells. Inkjet printers are slower and cheaper than Laser printers. However the cost of printing 1 page by Inkjet printer is double then Laser printer of same quality.
Laser Printers
Most popular high quality fast printers used in offices and in business places operate like a photocopy machine. Laser print can print text, graphic, images, charts and pictures by using laser beam in different colors. A page whose output is required is accumulated in printer buffer and then its images are created on paper. Laser printers have ability to print one page at a time or 4 to 50 pages per minute so they are called page printer also. Laser printers are high quality printers and their quality can be compared with commercial painting or with a photograph.
